“Oh, my God.”

George’s exclamation woke him up. Yeri sat up and took stock. He could feel his eyes widening. “The walls...”

“I can’t deal with this; it’s too early,” George protested, and he turned around and vanished back into the bedroom.

Every inch of the walls had been covered in sticky note papers. Yeri stood up, moved to the center of the room and turned in a slow circle. I wonder what this looks like to human eyes. To him, the papering was obvious enough, but the pale blues, greens and yellows he saw didn’t justify George’s strong reaction. He shook his head and got to work removing them all.

Taiki arrived halfway through the process. He stopped in the doorway and winced. “Neon note paper? My poor, poor eyes.”

Yeri turned and raised an eyebrow at the way Taiki was squinting. “It’s bright then, master?”

“Exceedingly. Be glad you can’t see this visual nightmare like we can.”

Yeri resumed peeling the paper off the walls. “What I don’t understand is how they’re doing this. These walls were clean last night before I fell asleep, and I slept out here. Nothing woke me, and you know I’m a light sleeper. I did not smell or hear anything out of the ordinary.”

“That is very interesting.” Taiki shook his head. “I’ll start the coffee while you finish this up. I’d offer to help, but I can’t bear to look at it any longer.”

“I don’t mind it, master.” Yeri thought this might be the only time in his life that he was grateful that he was mostly colorblind. “The goblins missed their mark if it’s me they meant to torture.”

Taiki chuckled before he went into the kitchen.

Once Yeri had taken down all the note papers and disposed of them in the trash, he took George his morning mug of coffee. “The living room has been de-papered, master.”

“You heard nothing?” George sat up to accept the mug.

“No, master.” Yeri sighed and allowed his gaze to roam over the walls. “I slept through their actions, and they were papering within inches of where I slept.” The more he thought about that, the more it disturbed him. If they could get that close to him without awakening him, there was no telling what other mischief they could get up to.

Yeri enjoyed the day in spite of his concerns about the goblins. They went ice skating at a very large ice rink. Costa was there, as was Niko and a younger man that Niko introduced as his little brother, Mark. Mark smelled vaguely familiar to Yeri, as well as smelling enough like Niko that there was no doubt in his mind of the relation between the two. Yeri couldn’t place where he’d smelled Mark before and, after a while, gave up in favor of actually ice skating, something he hadn’t gotten to do in years.
